This week we chatted with Warren Saari, President and CEO of Omega Communications Ltd. to learn more about their journey so far in Kelowna, and what they're planning for the future.

What is something you wish you knew when you first began?
It probably would have been nice to know what an amazing lifetime opportunity this industry has/had to offer. I originally went into the business thinking this would be something temporary until I figured out what I wanted to do...30 years later!

But maybe it was good to not know that, as it kept me hungry and actively pursuing new technologies and the opportunities that go with them!

What is something people might not know about Omega Communications Ltd.?
I think most of Kelowna hasn’t got a clue what we do here. We are very visible with our highway signage and trucks running about the BC Interior, but most people I meet don’t realize what we do. If there is one thing we might be known for in general, it is our supply of 2-way radios, with most just thinking about radio use for logging roads and that sort of thing.

What they don’t know is that we are the premier “Mission Critical” communications solutions provider in BC’s Southern Interior. This includes the design/engineering/sales and service of things like:

  • 911 dispatch systems and radio towers and the networks that go along with those,
  • RF data networks for the monitoring and control of most BC Interior municipal water and waste water systems,
  • 2-way radio solutions for BC’s major utilities, mines and forestry companies and more!

What are you looking forward to/planning for the future?
First and foremost is the relocation of our operation out of our new location, effective Dec. 20th, 2021 at #110-3677 Highway 97N (University Business Park just south of Reid’s Corner).

Second is the expansion of our TeamTalk.ca super effective and cost saving digital radio system offering for small and medium sized enterprises, so they too can benefit from 2-way radio networks like the big boys do. Some reasons why SME's might use radios:

  • Communication is immediate with the push of a button. Time isn’t wasted looking at screens or dialing etc. If there is critical communications that needs to occur immediately, radio accomplishes this better than any other method hands down!
  • Radio is one to many, rather than just one to one. This keeps everyone in the loop, rather than having dangerous silos of knowledge about what is going on not being shared with the team.
  • Radio is safe and legal – grabbing a microphone and pushing to talk doesn’t take your eyes off the road or a critical operation. Mobile communications can be accomplished in a safe and legal manner eliminating the distracted driving risks that cellular phones pose.
  • Radio is very cost effective – The equipment can be purchased as a one-time capital expenditure or can be put into your operating budget through creative financing options. Either way it’s economical, easy to budget and there are no surprise contract overages.
