Kelowna: Laura Thurnheer, Associate Dean, Okanagan School of Business, will be sworn in at the BC Chamber AGM this Thursday morning in Whistler. Thurnheer, Chamber President in 2007 who has remained an active Former President at the Chamber, will also be named Okanagan/Shuswap Representative on the BC Chamber Board.
Dan Price, current Chair of the Kelowna Chamber Board expressed his pleasure at Thurnheer’s appointment. “I’ve appreciated getting to know Laura and have the greatest respect for her deep business knowledge, and ongoing involvement with all things business in the Okanagan. The BC Chamber is gaining a terrific director.”
Thurnheer said of her election, ““I am very pleased to be selected to sit on the BC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as the Okanagan/Shuswap Representative. As a Former President of the Kelowna Chamber, I have remained fully supportive and strongly believe in the Chamber movement and all the positive work that continues to be done. Sharing my governance knowledge and board experience is a great way for me to continue to be involved and advocate on behalf of our local businesses and members.”
Thurnheer joins the Kelowna contingent in Whistler later this week for the annual conference, policy sessions and AGM. In Whistler will be Dan Price, Chair; Pamela Pearson, Past President; and Dan Rogers, CEO of the Kelowna Chamber.
The Kelowna Chamber is tabling eight policy resolutions at the conference for discussion and adoption by the delegates. The policies range widely over issues affecting business including labour force, drug decriminalization, liquor regulations, the Spec Tax, residential rental tenure zoning, the cannabis economy, and more. A super majority (two-thirds) of delegates is required for policy adoption, after which policies are taken to government by the BC Chamber and remain active for three years.
