Agricultural Expo Features Best of Okanagan and Kasugai, Japan

Kelowna: The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Kelowna-Kasugai Sister City Association to host an agricultural-themed expo, August 23 in Kelowna.

The Kelowna Golf and Country Club is the venue for the event. "Our Chamber has a special relationship with Kasugai, Japan," said Tom Dyas, President, Kelowna Chamber. "The sister city relationship is in its 30th year, and in August we're hosting 51 delegates, visitors and students from Kasugai. Our focus this year is on agriculture, since we share so many of these interests between our two cities."

At the August expo, local orchardists, water managers, honey producers, vintners and brewers will be showcasing some of the best the Okanagan has to offer. The table top displays will be augmented by short workshops on Canadian export regulations, the sterile insect release program, honey production, cherry and fruit growing, and the Agricultural Land Commission.

There will also be workshops given by several visiting Japanese delegates, on water conservation, and the growing and production of cactus-related products.

The event opens at 3:00 p.m. at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club, and is open to the general public and Chamber members. At 4:00 p.m., senior officials from the two cities will sign declarations pledging protection of the environment, and recognition of the importance of land management.  Between 5pm and 7pm, the Chamber has invited its members and non-members alike to its monthly "Commerce Connex", a networking after work opportunity to mix, mingle, sip a beverage, tour the trade show, as well as sit in on some of the short workshops.

Table top displays may be reserved on the Chamber's Event website www.kelownachamber.org. A growing line-up of vendors from both Japan and the Okanagan promises to make the event worthwhile and fun for everyone attending.
